Electrodata records Bangladesh CAAB
Wednesday, 15 August 2007

Electronics manufacturer Electrodata Pty Ltd has made flying in Bangladesh safer, thanks to its work in supplying that country’s civil airports with electronic voice logging recorders, designed and manufactured at its Rydalmere plant in Sydney. Electrodata has just completed a major project to roll out state-of-the-art digital voice logging equipment to all civil airports in Bangladesh, after winning an open tender from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, which sought to create the capacity to record control tower radio communications throughout the country. The tender process was protracted, taking more than two years, and hard fought against fierce international competition.

Electrodata had won a similar tender with the (Bangladeshi) Air Force five years previously and this proved advantageous. Tenders in Bangladesh, are advertised internationally, but overseas companies must bid through local companies. Electrodata’s reseller in this case was a former head of the Civil Aviation Authority, acquainted with Electrodata’s previous work, so able to effectively bid to win the tender. In the course of fulfilling the contract Electrodata had seven Bangladeshi engineers visit Australia for two weeks of intensive product training and project acceptance, while an Electrodata service technician travelled to Bangladesh to install and commission the equipment over a three week period. The value of the project was more than A$330,000.

Electrodata is a private, wholly Australian company that designs specialist voice logging software and assembles the hardware in its factory at Rydalmere. Electrodata has designed and exported voice loggers for over 35 years. Electrodata joined the Western Sydney IT Cluster in March this year, after CEO Mark Player attended a WSITC sponsored business forum. Electrodata’s membership adds to the Cluster’s electronics and manufacturing profile and market knowledge, while providing Electrodata with access to a wide range of business development opportunities and industry and market intelligence networks.
